Welcome back to Six Weeks of Sport, where I, your reporter Josh Dyke, keep you up to date with all of the supporting events this term!
First up, it is the build-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and everything is certainly in motion. Despite starting on the 26th of July, preparation for the athletes starts up to a year in advance to make sure they are at peak fitness for the games. Paris itself is preparing with new exhibitions in Le Louvre, a huge record breaking 5400 square meter flag being test hung off the Eiffel tower and gradually increased security throughout the city. Break-dancing will make its first ever appearance in the games causing controversy among many; some left delighted and some left confused.
Second up, is the upcoming football Euros where the England squad have another opportunity to bring football home! This year it is held in Germany, starting on the 14th of June and with England in group C facing Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia. So the question is, can England end their dry spell and will it be a win in Germany?
Finally, whilst this time last year I was writing about Argyle’s promotion to the Championship, this time around we celebrate them just barely staying out of the relegation zone by one point after a nail-biting math against Hull City. Late in the first half there was a powerful header from captain Joe Edwards assisted by Callum Wright in his first two touches of the game, coming on as a replacement for Mustapha Bundu who was forced off by a leg injury. Overall: the best the club and its fans could hope for and now. We’ve only got so much more to prove for next season.
