Technological Advancements
By Lorcan Urcia
Hello there, my name is Lorcan Urcia, and I shall inform you on the wonderful world of technology and what us humans have done to take a step further into the future. This article will be about Artificial Intelligence and how we are using it for. The first thing I will clarify is what Artificial Intelligence is. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the making of machines and robots that can carry out different tasks just like a human would. This has many positives including: reducing risk of human error and working all day and night. However, this also comes with a few negatives such as being able to replace people’s jobs which could lead to some people becoming unemployed or leading people to rely on this technology instead of learning skills themselves. I will now give an example of AI in the modern world today.
Chat GPT
Chat GPT was founded by Open AI which is an AI research company. This AI tries to create human-like conversations based on the prompts it has been given. This happens by using certain algorithms to find patterns inside of sequences. These are then written out and then given back to the person using it. There are 2 forms of this AI, the GPT-3.5 and the GPT-4 with the latter being more efficient and able to have more complex ideas thrown at it. This version is unlocked through Chat GPT plus, which costs £16 a month. This AI however can be exploited to do certain tasks for you or make them easier. For example, you can use it write school essays, just by asking it to draft an essay based on your desired topic. Rest assured that this article was not written by Chat GPT itself. These essays can be tracked down by other AI technologies with the task of finding if Chat GPT wrote or not. Although incredibly useful, it can be dangerous to use if you are a student looking to try and get away with something and many schools have systems to prevent this from happening.
Conclusion
Artificial intelligence is an immensely powerful use of technology that we humans have created to make our lives just that bit easier. A common question about Artificial Intelligence is ‘Will it take over society?’ Just like I said previously, it can take away people’s jobs and could cause an economic failure with many people becoming unemployed and becoming financially unstable. If too powerful, it can cause different outcomes in the world, which could either boost efficiency in our works or having access to vital and encrypted information, which could lead to disaster and even war. These possibilities could happen but if we keep it to a controlled and stable level, I believe it could be necessary for our futures in humanity.
