REVISION!

Structured revision is key to exam success, and we work with our students throughout Key Stage 4 and 5 to ensure they are well-prepared for the revision process.

GATHER, FILTER, LEARN TEST

We find the ‘Gather, Filter, Learn, Test’ method a really useful way to structure revision and provide students with copies of this, along with time suggestions to ensure students don’t spend too long doing the wrong thing. We also provide a range of suggested activities for each phase, so there really is something for everyone!

#REVISE100HOURS

To encourage students to track their progress with revision, we share with students the #revise50hours (Year 10) and #revise100hours (Year 11) templates, along with suggestions for how to reach their target over a set period of time. This template can also be an incredibly useful tool for parents and teachers to see the progress a child is making. Students can keep a running tally of the amount of time they have spent revising, as well as their coverage of each subject, to ensure they feel suitably prepared for these exams. One hour does not have to be done in one sitting, and can be broken down into blocks of 20 or 30-minute sessions. The important thing is that a clear routine is established early on and then maintained over the revision period. Not ‘breaking the chain’ is paramount, and ensuring students do something each day will help to maintain the habit.

PARENTAL SUPPORT

Evidence shows that parental support is the single biggest determiner of student success, and there are many ways parents can support through the revision process. Hopefully the videos and documents on this page will give a good idea of what students SHOULD be doing and enable students and parents to find ways to work together on revision. The ‘Power to Perform’ documents enable parents to support in a more holistic way, with recipe ideas to keep minds and bodies healthy during the exam season! A good balance of revision time and relaxation is essential to create stamina in students to get through the exam period. Push them to go for a walk, help make dinner or simply have a bath where they can thoroughly relax!

SUBJECT SPECIFIC IDEAS

Please visit the subject specific folders for details on key revision strategies and resources unique to each subject! This is an excellent starting place for those new to revision or lacking direction in what to do next!
