At Hele’s we strive to give our students an education that will prepare them for the world of work. We do this with the support of industry partners who dedicate time, resources, and transfer of knowledge. Together we can build a talent pipeline of the skills needed in the local economy, and across the UK.

Our Local Enterprise Partnership

The Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (HotSW LEP) is one of 38 LEPs in England whose purpose is to lead and influence economic growth, job creation and prosperity across Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay.

Building Plymouth   

 

Hele’s School is delighted to be working in collaboration with Building Plymouth, as part of the ‘Adopt a School’ programme.  This is an exciting project which will allow our students to gain an insight into the wide-ranging career opportunities within the Construction Industry.

The project is so important, as according to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the South-West region is set to see the highest construction output growth in the UK, with Plymouth predicted to require a further 10,000 additional construction jobs by 2020.

The employer links which the Building Plymouth Partnership provides will bring a wealth of skills and expertise to our students.  We have already had support from Building Plymouth for our Year 9 Careers Day, our Year 11 mock interview event and our Careers Fair.

Working alongside Emma Hewitt and her Team at Building Plymouth has been so beneficial to our students and has already sparked interest amongst them to consider careers in the Construction Industry. We look forward to this collaboration continuing to grow in the future.

Careers & Enterprise Company’s Enterprise Advisor Network

The Careers & Enterprise Company is the national network set up to inspire and prepare young people for the fast-changing world of work. Its role is to connect schools and colleges, employers and careers programme providers to create high-impact careers opportunities for young people across England. Within the CEC, The Enterprise Adviser Network is a network of business volunteers who work in senior roles. They volunteer their time and help school and college careers leaders to increase their engagement with businesses and to access local careers resources.

Our Enterprise Adviser is Darren Jones from EE Ltd. Darren’s role is to work directly with the senior leadership teams in schools and colleges to develop effective careers and enterprise plans and enable more encounters for young people. 

Darren is an Operations Manager at EE, within the Call Centre based in Langage, providing Customer Service for Mobile and Broadband consumers. He has previous experience working in retail. He started working in the Call Centre in 2002 as a Customer Service Advisor and has had different roles in the 17 years. Day to day activities include managing 120 employees to deal with inbound/outbound service calls to resolve technical queries raised by Broadband customers.

Darren is passionate about supporting the local community especially the young people. He has been volunteering as a School Governor at Yealmpstone Farm Primary School for over 10 years and is also a Director of Bright Stars Nursery based within the school.

Darren is looking forward to sharing his knowledge of recruitment and transferable skills with all the students and his focus is to provide support for the leadership team to raise the profile of Careers within the school which will include attending the Careers Fair.
